DECENTER at CES 2021

Kentyou, partner in DECENTER, will be present at CES 2021 with a digital booth. CES is a world-famous annual trade show of consumer electronics and digital innovations usually held in Las Vegas, that transformed into a digital event due to COVID-19. The event will gather more than 1800 exhibitors and feature …

What is DECENTER?

DECENTER is a research and innovation project aiming to deliver a robust Fog Computing Platform, covering the whole Cloud-to-Things continuum, that will provide application-aware orchestration and provisioning of resources, driven by methods of Artificial Intelligence. The underlying infrastructure will span across borders into a federation, and will utilize Blockchain and Smart Contracts to reach secure processing, automated operation and timely delivery of responses.

Research and Innovation Action

Fog Computing Platform to orchestrate Cloud-to-Edge resources

DECENTER will design and develop a robust and secure Fog Computing Platform, based on existing Open Source frameworks that provides application-aware orchestration of resources and zero-touch provisioning of Microservices for Artificial Intelligence applications based on their specific requirements and described by means of Quality of Service models.

Blockchain-based framework fostering cross-border dynamic binding of resources

DECENTER relies on a framework that catalyses offer and demand for Edge resources. The innovative solution is based on Blockchain to draft and seal Smart Contracts, monitor their fulfillment and grant rewards.

Smarter Internet of Things fabric

DECENTER enriches Internet of Things platforms with more intelligent features able to cope with the data deluge coming from multiple data sources including audio and video capable devices with built-in Artificial Intelligence algorithms for feature extraction, application-aware data filtering reducing impact on the use of the network.

Hybrid decentralised Artificial Intelligence models exploiting DECENTER’s novel infrastructure

DECENTER evolves decentralised Artificial Intelligence models that become possible with a more reactive and flexible resources infrastructure, unlocking a huge potential for innovative applications. Among others, this innovation will address the needs for data locality and time-critical aspects of the Big Data problem.

Smart City

Crossing Safety

Aiming to increase pedestrian crossing safety in a smart city, we plan to equip a number of pedestrian crossings with devices that enable monitoring of pedestrians moving and willing to cross the road. The objective is to spot any potential danger nearby that might put their safety at risk and provide means for notification alerts.

Robotics

Logistics

Testing a new, cost-effective, robotic indoor transport solution that will be specially suited for warehouses will automate the transport process and free workforce for tasks that entail higher added value. It will permit the incorporation of the swarm robot system from Robotnik into the cloud/edge system services, allowing enhancing the functionality of the robots by the use of Edge Computing and a centralised Cloud.

Smart Construction

Safety at Work

The goal of this scenario is to develop an application for smart notifications at construction sites, based on video streams and sensor data. The application will apply Artificial Intelligence methods for real-time video-streams analysis. Several application areas were identified including construction monitoring, construction site management, safety at work, early warning against accidents and management of resources and assets.

Ambient Intelligence

Safety at Home and Around

With the help of Artificial Intelligence and monitoring, we will detect possible dangerous situations at home and around. The data will be collected by Internet of Things devices and will vary from audio-video features to sensor readings, such as temperature or motion. The collected data will be processed by Artificial Intelligence algorithms running on the DECENTER’s Cloud-to-Edge continuum and will result in specific continuously adapting models. Data privacy concerns will be addressed by keeping raw data near the Edge.
