FogAtlas
FogAtlas is a software framework proposed to manage a geographically distributed and decentralized cloud computing infrastructure to deliver computational, storage and network services close to the data sources and the users, embracing the fog computing paradigm. FogAtlas is able to manage the lifecycle of cloud-native applications in the so-called cloud-to-edge continuum. It is an evolution of the well-known PaaS paradigm adding the concept of “locality” to the traditional cloud computing model and easing the workload management operations over an edge computing infrastructure.
The main features offered are:
- Set-up, monitoring, operations and automatic fleet management of a multi-tier, distributed Cloud infrastructure;
- Zero-touch deployment and orchestration of containerized applications, resource allocation and workload placement;
- Negotiation of resources, both computational and network ones, in a multi-tenant (and potentially multi-provider) Fog Computing environment.
FogAtlas is based on Open Source technologies, namely OpenStack, Kubernetes, Docker and Ansible, properly extended and integrated with software developed by FBK RiSING team so as to handle with an unified approach not only Cloud Computing infrastructures but also Fog Computing ones.FogAtlas offers a set of Graphical User Interface (GUI) that allow Users and Infrastructure owners to easily control and monitor the resources usage and to easily model a cloud-native application (see the following figures).
